Probably the best book I've read all year。 I absolutely could not put it down。 The plot twists at the end made my jaw drop over and over again in the last 10% of the book。 Probably the best book I've read all year。 I absolutely could not put it down。 The plot twists at the end made my jaw drop over and over again in the last 10% of the book。 。。。more

Freaking amazing!!!I don’t even know how to explain how good this book was。It’s been a while since I read a true enemies to lovers and back to enemies that was done so well。 Raihn and Oraya really go through all possible phases and it was amazing to be a part of their jorney。 Can’t wait to get to read the rest of their story in the next book!

4。5 stars "You cannot accomplish anything in this world without power", he said。 "And power requires sacrifice, focus and ruthlessness"What a delight。 This book was a rollercoaster。 Broadbent takes you into a world of vampires, darkness and angst。 Like a lot of angst。 Firstly I'd like to say that I am honestly not a fan of the immortal x mortal trope because of the entire age gap thing。 Like I KNOW it's fantasy so it shouldn't really matter, but clearly it didn't since I gave this a high rating。 4。5 stars "You cannot accomplish anything in this world without power", he said。 "And power requires sacrifice, focus and ruthlessness"What a delight。 This book was a rollercoaster。 Broadbent takes you into a world of vampires, darkness and angst。 Like a lot of angst。 Firstly I'd like to say that I am honestly not a fan of the immortal x mortal trope because of the entire age gap thing。 Like I KNOW it's fantasy so it shouldn't really matter, but clearly it didn't since I gave this a high rating。 Originally I was a fan of 'Daughter of no worlds' which is why I picked this up and while I connected with Oraya and Raihn, Max and Tissanah had me in a chokehold。 The plot: So basically as a rundown, this book takes place in the Obitraes which consists of three kingdoms: The house of night, shadow and blood。 Oraya was a small child when she was found by the king of the Hiaj clan which is one of the two clans of Nightborn Vampires。 He raises her, trains her to be smart and you get the point。 Obviously, because Oraya is a human she doesn't have the same level of power as vampires。 Now back to the future, Oraya takes part in the Kejari which is a deadly trial that many many vampires take part in to be granted whatever they want by the goddess herself, Nyaxia。 Now my overall thoughts are hard to put but simply it's a good book。 It's got the romance, the action, and the writing is easy to follow BUT it is predictable a lot of the time。 However, I didn't mind it much because well I was entertained。 Now Raihn and Oraya started rocky but goddamn they were cute。 This book kinda goes 'I dislike you to mutual alliance to eventual friendship to lovers to I think I hate you again and want you dead but also don't。" So do with that what you will。 Raihn, Oraya's love interest was interesting but more than that it was Vincent, Oraya's father who was a character that wasn't explored enough I feel。 Oraya's relationship with him was complicated but it was enticing。 The last 20% of the book is kinda just like what the fuck。 Anyways I recommend。 。。。more

Oh my freaking word! How is this not blowing up the internet! I mean this is serious enrapturing。 I’m dying for the next novel。

Wow! I flew through this book! There are vampires, a deadly tournament, lots of magic and a dash of romance。 It has everything I love about fantasy!

This was so well done! What a great story! I'm definitely going to move on to book 2。 Typically, vampires aren't what I choose to read about。 It was the reviews that pushed me to take a chance on this book。 It was so worth it! The author is a magnificent world builder。 And she writes strong characters。 This book is dark and grisly。 There's violence on nearly every page。 Its not a sweet fantasy, at all。 So know your triggers before delving in。 If you like some food dark fantasy, you'll like it。 This was so well done! What a great story! Wow that was incredible。 I loved it so much, can’t wait for the second。

And now I wait for book 2I didn’t mean to fall in love。 But I did。 I enjoyed this book so much。 Such a different take on vampires。 I was here for it。 Their love story is a messy one but what do you expect with vampires… The only bas thing about this book is I hate that I found it so soon because now I have to wait so long for the next book。

Random Thoughts

Unexpectedly good。 The tension and angst were perfect。

This is one of my top favorite books。 Ever。 I could not put it down。 The world building is phenomenal。 The action is so well written。 The fmc is a bad ass, takes no crap kind of woman。 The story line itself is such a unique take on vampires。 A human raised by a vampire king joins in a competition to fights against other vampires in hopes of winning and getting her wish granted by Nyaxia。 All while turmoil and wars are on the brink outside of the competition between the different kingdoms。 The th This is one of my top favorite books。 Ever。 I could not put it down。 The world building is phenomenal。 The action is so well written。 The fmc is a bad ass, takes no crap kind of woman。 The story line itself is such a unique take on vampires。 A human raised by a vampire king joins in a competition to fights against other vampires in hopes of winning and getting her wish granted by Nyaxia。 All while turmoil and wars are on the brink outside of the competition between the different kingdoms。 The thing I loved the most about our mmc is yes he’s charming and hot like all the other book boyfriends we love, BUT the best quality was to see how he loved to see the fight in our fmc。 He encourages her to only be her true self。 To make sure she does what makes her happy, no one else。 When she fights against him, he encourages it。 Every moment that happened and he said “there she is”, i fell in love with him even more。 The last 10% of this book, my jaw just stayed open with all of the twists and turns the story took。 The cliffhanger is intense and now I’m dying for book 2。 。。。more

I started my Halloween bookish vibes early this year and I have zero regrets。 I already preordered book 2, due out 3/15/23。 But I will likely not wait for Fall to suck it down。 Vampire pun, very much intended。

4。5 stars This was a fun, fast paced read。 I really liked the unique vampire magic system, as so often vampires are all written the same。 The story moves quickly and builds the world as you go and many of the best tropes are present。

They had us in the first half, I'm not gonna lie。100 pages in, I was a bit unsure about how much I would come to like this book。 The pacing seemed a bit off, at times it felt a bit repetitive, but by the time the second part started, I was completely sold。The rest of the book was a breeze and that's the only reason why I'm not giving it 5 stars for now, but I might change my mind depending on how much I like book 2。Seeing Oraya's relationships change was an emotional ride and I especially liked They had us in the first half, I'm not gonna lie。100 pages in, I was a bit unsure about how much I would come to like this book。 The pacing seemed a bit off, at times it felt a bit repetitive, but by the time the second part started, I was completely sold。The rest of the book was a breeze and that's the only reason why I'm not giving it 5 stars for now, but I might change my mind depending on how much I like book 2。Seeing Oraya's relationships change was an emotional ride and I especially liked how the book focuses on other things other than her romantic relationship。 Her parental relationship with Vincent and her friendships are every bit as endearing, infuriating and sentimental。Her journey through the trials is not always linear, she fails and conquers her shortcomings in admirable ways。 She opens up and becomes a character you want to root for。Can't wait for book 2! 。。。more

I wasn’t really sure what to expect in this book, but I should have know it would be heart-wrenching since I’ve read a previous book from the author。 The thing that she does so well is making all the characters multi-faceted - a brutal king who loves his adopted human daughter but is horrifyingly violent; an ally and lover who both loves the main character but also deceived her; and our badass main character, who pretends to have a heart of ice but has to go through SO MUCH for the people she lo I wasn’t really sure what to expect in this book, but I should have know it would be heart-wrenching since I’ve read a previous book from the author。 The thing that she does so well is making all the characters multi-faceted - a brutal king who loves his adopted human daughter but is horrifyingly violent; an ally and lover who both loves the main character but also deceived her; and our badass main character, who pretends to have a heart of ice but has to go through SO MUCH for the people she loves。 I am a love story lover, and I adored Raihn and how much he cares for Oraya, who pretends not to love him back。 But they are in a messy spot, and after what happened (which was shocking and brutal) at the end I have no idea where the story is going to go from here。 But they are both good people and I hope somehow this crazy mess works out。 I have faith Oraya will become the power she always was and needs to be。 Can’t wait for the next one。 。。。more

3。5 starsWhen I started I thought that this was going to be a five star read。 It started off strong and became average at about 70%。 I saw most of the plot twists miles away。At least it delievered in the angst department。 I really like Oraya and the way she is not an idiot and uses common sense but she still feels alot。Raihn was not bad either。 He managed to be a perfectly normal fantasy boyfriend and not do anything crazy。 He treated her well, was smart and had good friends。With Vincent I am ju 3。5 starsWhen I started I thought that this was going to be a five star read。 It started off strong and became average at about 70%。 I saw most of the plot twists miles away。At least it delievered in the angst department。 I really like Oraya and the way she is not an idiot and uses common sense but she still feels alot。Raihn was not bad either。 He managed to be a perfectly normal fantasy boyfriend and not do anything crazy。 He treated her well, was smart and had good friends。With Vincent I am just going to say that he deserved everything coming to him。I enjoyed this even though I thought it would br better and I can't wait for the next book。 。。。more
